University of Iowa Football-The Wave
Depicted above is something that never fails to move me. This is the University of Iowa fans turning away from the football game after the 1st quarter of the Big 10 football game, to wave to the patients watching from the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. I think it's incredible enough that Iowa placed the children's wing to overlook the football field, but to then have 70,000 fans turn and wave is absolutely amazing to me. I've watched some videos on this event from the perspective of some of the kids in the hospital watching, and they said it's "life changing" and "means so much more than just a wave", and that just gets me right in the heart. I think that since schools have shifted so much of their energy to athletics, the fact hat they're able to use their platform in such a positive way is great. The wave happens at every home game, after the first quarter, and the whole stadium participates, fans, players, coaches, refs, even players and staff from the visiting team. Overall I have mad respect for University of Iowa for this, and hope that I can participate in this one day.
